CENTER FOR THE ADVANCEMENT AND STUDY OF EARLY TEXAS ART
CANCELS ANNUAL MEETING

It is with regret that we announce the 2020 Symposium and Texas Art Fair scheduled to be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton – Houston Greenway Plaza on April 24-26, 2020 has been cancelled.  We made this difficult decision due to the spreading threat of the COVID-19 virus and concern for the health and well-being of all who might attend the symposium.

We plan to go forward with our full symposium in the spring of 2021. We are examining various possibilities for the interim and will be in contact with our members and the media in the near future about alternate plans we are working on that we feel will be of value to our members.

This is the first time in 18 years that the symposium event will not take place during its scheduled time. Although our April 2020 event has been postponed, we remain devoted to our mission. We are currently supporting significant research projects and adding valuable resources for our members to our website and through The Portal to Texas History at the University of North Texas. We are also supporting a number of outreach programs across the state and are working on a truly extraordinary illustrated publication, authored and edited by some of the leading historians and art scholars in our state, which will be a significant contribution to the advancement and study of early Texas art.

This is a temporary interruption in our programming, but we are deeply committed to the very important mission of promoting the advancement and study of our state’s remarkable visual art history. We continue to work on ways to increase the long-term value and impact of CASETA going forward.
